―Game description

Call of Duty: Nexus Arena, often referred to as just Nexus Arena, is a mobile Call of Duty turn-based strategy game developed by Morningwood Software and published by Morningwood Arts. Unlike most games published by Morningwood Arts, Nexus Arena uses the Unreal Engine. Call of Duty: Nexus Arena is also the first Call of Duty project that Anakin Nakamura has not served as design director, instead being Thomas Loon.

The game allows players to collect characters from all Call of Duty games developed by Morningwood Arts such as Call of Duty: Eclipse Warfare, Call of Duty: Awakening of the Hive, and Call of Duty: Federation War, and put those characters into battle against each other.

Also included are some other characters not created by Morningwood Software such as those from the Roach Chronicles, Soul of the Machine, and Call of Duty: Undead Warfare.

Game Tutorials

Beginners

The tutorial starts with players being greeted by The Son, in his original form, who tells the players about the "Nexus Arena", a special area of the Nexus that he created to put individuals from all universes and timelines to battle against each other. After being told about the Nexus Arena, a Nexus Apparition appears and tells the player that they wouldn't stand a chance against the other Nexus Apparitions.

The Son then goes on to tell the player to not worry about the Nexus Apparitions and that they were just all "talk and no bite". He then hands the player a Starter Card Pack which contains four Protagonist Characters: Anakin Nakamura, Daniela Knight, Skylar Henning, Michael Greene. Once opening the Card Pack, players are taken straight into a battle on the ENSS Intervention during a Korman attack and battle against four Nexus Apparitions.

After winning the battle, players are free to do whatever they wish and the tutorial ends. Players also start with 1000 Nexus Crystals, which they can use to buy Card Packs, Armoury Credits, Resources and Nexus Shards.

Gameplay

Ranking

The ranking system in Nexus Arena is very simple. Players will earn XP from the battles they finish and once earning enough XP, they will Rank up and receive rewards that include: "Lesser Nexus Energy" which is used to start any battle, Armoury Credits that can be used in the Armoury and Resources Store, and Resources which are used to upgrade Characters. Certain Modes are unlocked at a higher Rank.

There is also Competitive Ranking for both Solo and Alliance players. Solo players can play in the "Competitive Arena" to increase their rank during a Competitive Season to earn rewards such as Character Cards, Resources, Nexus Shards, Nexus Crystals and Armoury Credits.

Characters

In Call of Duty: Nexus Arena, Characters can be unlocked once obtaining the required amount of Character Cards. Once unlocked, Characters can be upgraded with Resources and promoted by collecting more Character Cards, and can be used in any mode. Characters are categorized into two sides: Protagonists and Antagonists, and are also categorized into different rarities.

Once unlocking a Character, players can use Resources they obtain from battles or the Resources Store to upgrade that Character which increases their stats. Every Character has five upgrade slots: Health, Damage, Resistance, Attack Speed, Critical Chance. In the "Health" slot, Health-related Resources can be used to allow Characters to have more health in battle, but does not increase damage resistance. In the "Resistance" slot, Resistance-related Resources will increase the damage resistance of Characters, but doesn't increase health. The "Attack Speed" slot allows for Speed-related Resources to increase how fast Characters will attack enemies in battle. Lastly the "Critical Chance" slot allows players to equip Resources that'll increase the chance of Characters dealing Critical damage to enemy targets and stun them to skip their turn. Once equipping a Resource to all five upgrade slots, players can Upgrade that Character and increases their "Equipment Tier" that goes up to Tier X (10).

Promoting Characters will greatly increase their stats and will add a Star which will also increase their overall Power, which is a measurement of their stats, Equipment Tier, and equipped Resources altogether. The Armoury Credit to Promoting a Character depends on the number of Stars they have.

  • No Star - 5000 Armoury Credits
  • One Star - 10,000 Armoury Credits
  • Two Stars - 20,000 Armoury Credits
  • Three Stars - 30,000 Armoury Credits
  • Four Stars - 40,000 Armoury Credits
  • Five Stars - 50,000 Armoury Credits
  • Six Stars - 60,000 Armoury Credits
  • Seven Stars - 70,000 Armoury Credits

Characters are limited to just eight Stars, and can also be leveled up as well by simply using them in any mode.

Characters are categorized into different rarities which include: Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Legendary, Ancient and Exotic. Each rarity has a Character Card requirement in order to unlock them.

  • Common — 10 Cards/5 Cards to Promote
  • Uncommon — 25 Cards/15 Cards to Promote
  • Rare — 50 Cards/25 Cards to Promote
  • Epic — 100 Cards/50 Cards to Promote
  • Legendary — 175 Cards/100 Cards to Promote
  • Ancient — 350 Cards/175 Cards to Promote
  • Exotic — 700 Cards/350 Cards to Promote

Characters also have Abilities unique to them, these Abilities can also be upgraded using Nexus Shards and are also categorized into four classes: Assault, Healer, Support, Tank. Assault Characters focus on agility and speed, giving them faster Attack Speeds than any other class. Healer Characters are able to heal friendly Characters as well as heal themselves and have more Resistance than other classes, some Healers can even resurrect defeated allies. Support Characters can amplify the Abilities of friendly Characters and has higher chances to deal Critical damage. Tank Characters can deal more Damage to enemy targets and have a lot more Health than other classes.

As players Upgrade their Characters' Equipment Tier, their Characters will unlock another ability to use in battle and at Equipment Tier IV, Characters will unlock a passive "Leader Trait" that is unique to that specific Character. Like using Nexus Shards to upgrade Abilities, those can also be used to upgrade the "Leader Trait".

Events

Events are special battles that are available during specific time periods and for a limited time until they end. These Event battles require the use of 5 Characters within a specific class, however some "Special" Events will instead let players use Characters that are about to be added to the game. Unlike regular battles, Event battles drop players straight into a boss battle against a Protagonist or Antagonist Character with two Healer Characters present.

Rewards for completing Event battles include: possible Characters, Character Cards, Resources, Nexus Shards, Nexus Crystals, Armoury Credits.

Alliances

“Ah, I see you have grouped with others. Hehe. No shame in that, friend. We all need friends, right? Anyways, here is the special area I built specifically for your Alliance. At this table, you could manage everyone part of your Alliance; that means you can kick others to make room. Over at this table is where you plan and launch Expeditions; these are raids that have you fighting against the toughest bosses in the Nexus. And over here, you could view the Alliance Shop within the Armoury; you could purchase Character Cards, Nexus Shards, Resources, whatever you want. Take a look at this board right here; this is where you'll track the leaderboard of your Alliance to see who's earning the Alliance some XP in the Competitive Arena. So that's it, this is your Alliance room. Have fun, friend!”
―The Son explaining Alliances and their rooms

Players can form Alliances with other players and call upon their Characters to assist in Protagonists and Antagonists Arenas, Nexus Battles, and Nexus Conquest. Within an Alliance, players can carry out Expeditions; fighting against High-Value Tier Grimm, Cryptids, Zombies, Hellhounds, and even fight against Boss Protagonists/Antagonists to earn higher amounts of Character Cards, Resources, Nexus Shards, Armoury Credits and Alliance Tokens.

Players can also donate Character Cards and Resources to other players in the same Alliance; doing so will reward players with Alliance Tokens as well. Alliances can also be ranked up by playing in the "Competitive Arena" which will increase its rank. Increasing the Alliance Rank during a Competitive Season rewards all players in that Alliance with Armoury Credits, Resources and Alliance Tokens.

Alliance Tokens can be used in the Alliance Room of the Armoury. Expeditions are recommended for players at Rank 60 or higher as well as for Characters that are Level 60 or higher as all Expedition Bosses scale as high as Rank 160 but do not scale under Rank 60.

Modes

There are six Modes in Nexus Arena. The Protagonists Arena is unlocked after completing the Tutorial while the Antagonists Arena is unlocked once collecting four Antagonist Characters. The Alliance Arena is unlocked once joining an Alliance. Nexus Battles and Competitive Arena are unlocked at Rank 20. Nexus Conquest is unlocked at Rank 40. Nexus Challenges is unlocked at Rank 50.

When out of Lesser Nexus Energy, players will be unable to start battles in the Protagonists/Antagonists Arenas. Nexus refreshes will give players more Lesser Nexus Energy every 12 hours.

Protagonists & Antagonists Arena

“Ah, my favourite Arena. I see you wanna put those four Characters I can you to use, right? Well this Arena was built specifically for them. But keep in mind that you can only use a max of 5 Protagonists. But since you only have four, the Nexus Apparition you're battling against has four as well. You'll earn XP for yourself and your Characters as well as Armoury Credits and Resources. Now get out there and crush that Apparition's Characters!”
―The Son talking to the player when entering the Protagonist Arena

The Protagonists Arena is the mode where players can form a team of 5 Protagonists to fight against the Antagonists in ten sets of levels. The Antagonists Arena is the same as the Protagonists, only players use a team of 5 Antagonist Characters and battle against Protagonists in ten sets of levels.

There are two difficulties in these two Arenas: Normal and Heroic. Normal Battles reward XP, Armoury Credits, Resources. Heroic Battles rewards the same as Normal, plus giving players specific Character Cards and Nexus Shards. The amount of Cards rewarded depend on the level that's played. As players progress in these Arenas, the more Nexus Energy they'll need to start a battle. Each set contains tens levels.

Each Heroic Battle can only be played five times a day and will sometimes not reward players with Character Cards, if unlucky.

Alliance Arena

The Alliance Arena is the mode where players choose 5 Characters, including both Protagonists and Antagonists, and battle against other players to increase their global ranking. Alliance Arena battles will increase a player's global ranking based on the performance of their Characters in a match; having one or more Characters defeated results in rank decrease while winning without losing a single Character results in high rank increases. However Characters will have their equipped "Resources Upgrades" disabled in order to ensure a balanced experience.

Rewards for completing Alliance Arena battles include: XP, Alliance Tokens and Armoury Credits. Rewards for winning Alliance Arena battles include higher amounts of Alliance Tokens, Armoury Credits and Nexus Crystals.

Nexus Battles

The Nexus Battles mode is where players can choose 5 Characters, including both Protagonists and Antagonists, and battle against a group of Characters controlled by a Nexus Apparition and clear out seven sets of levels. Nexus Battles has its own Energy system where players can only get more every 24 hours.

Unlike Heroic Battles, Nexus Battles can be played as long as players have enough Greater Nexus Energy. Rewards for completing Nexus Battles include: XP, Character Cards, Armoury Credits, Nexus Shards, and Nexus Coins. Nexus Coins can be used in the Nexus Room of the Armoury.

Nexus Conquest

The Nexus Conquest mode is where players can use all of their Characters to clear 18 levels of battles against Nexus Apparition-controlled Characters. Only 5 Characters can be used per battle; once a Character is killed in these battles, they can no longer be used until the game allows players to reset the set the next day.

Rewards for conquering the Nexus in these battles include: XP, Character Cards, Armoury Credits, Resources, Nexus Shards, Nexus Coins.

Competitive Arena

The Competitive Arena is a PvP ranked skill-based mode where players battle against other players to earn Competitive Ranks as well as Alliance XP for their Alliance, if they are part of one. In this Arena, players compete with their "dream team" of Characters, and players' Characters will have their equipped Resource Upgrades enabled, creating the experience that only those who mastered their Characters will claim victory.

The Competitive Arena is recommended for players at Rank 25 and with Characters at Level 25 or higher. Rewards for winning matches is just XP while Armoury Credits, Nexus Shards, and Alliance Tokens are only given to players that increase their Competitive Rank.

In Nexus Arena, players are able to collect over 200 Characters. Each with their own unique Abilities and passive Leader Traits.

Updates

Presidency Council Update

The Presidency Council is the first game update for Nexus Arena developed by Morningwood Software. The update adds in six new characters to the roster such as Anakin J. Fall I and Ash Lee "Ashley" Tachibana, both of whom synergize with each other as part of an ability.

Three days before the update launched, there was a Special Event called the "Presidential Arrival" which featured the update's characters, allowing players to use them before release as well as teaching them on how to use the characters' abilities, featuring three "Tiers". Tier 1 taught players how to properly use the synergy ability of Anakin J. Fall and Ashley Tachibana. Tier 2 thought players how to use the other four characters while affected by Anakin J. Fall's passive Leader Trait to their advantage. Tier 3 allowed players to use all six characters at once against a team of Nexus Apparitions.

The update also added in an extra Set for the Protagonists and Antagonists Arenas as well as Nexus Battles, each containing twelve levels instead of the usual ten.

Characters included:
